Hot Oil Stocks To Invest In Right Now

The rush of master limited partnerships going public continues unabated through the second quarter of 2013. As the month of June draws to a close, let's look back at all that we have gained this quarter in the wonderful world of MLP IPOs.

April
Kicking off the second quarter right, KNOT Offshore Partners (NYSE: KNOP  ) debuted on April 10. The partnership owns and operates shuttle tankers under customer contracts that last five years or more. Shuttle tankers move crude oil and condensate from offshore oil rigs to onshore terminals and refineries, so it makes sense that KNOT Offshore's customers include BG Group, Statoil, and Transpetro.

May
We had two MLP IPOs in May. First up was Emerge Energy Services (NYSE: EMES  ) , which hit the books on May 9, and is up 16% already. The partnership has a sand segment and a fuel processing and distribution segment, which engages primarily in the separation of transmix.

Advisors' Opinion:
  • [By Matt DiLallo]

I'm convinced that he's right to be bullish on LINN. I've been an investor in the company practically since it went public in 2006. The recent negativity on the company will eventually blow over, as it always does after these "bear raids" end. The biggest form of uncertainty is that these negative attacks have pulled in the SEC to investigate. That's putting the complex merger involving LINN, its affiliate LinnCo (NASDAQ: LNCO  ) and Berry Petroleum (NYSE: BRY  ) on shaky ground.

  • [By Matt DiLallo]

    LINN Energy (NASDAQ: LINE  )
In my opinion, LINN offers investors the best the characteristics of both Conoco and Enterprise. Like Conoco it'sbenefitingfrom the tremendous growth in onshore U.S. oil and gas production. Yet like Enterprise it's structured in a more tax-efficient manner, as it's structured in a way similar to an MLP. Taken together, LINN or its affiliate LinnCo (NASDAQ: LNCO  ) make my list as one of the best long-term energy stocks for you to invest in if you're seeking a high yield.

  • [By Dan Caplinger]

Outside the Dow, energy investment vehicles Linn Energy (NASDAQ: LINE  ) and LinnCo (NASDAQ: LNCO  ) fell 19% and 17% respectively after revealing that the SEC was investigating the companies. As Fool contributor Sean Williams reported earlier today, it appears that the investigation will center on Linn's handling of accounting procedures, especially in connection with hedging strategies that the company has used. With LinnCo holding limited liability company units of Linn Energy, both companies' fortunes are tied to the results of any investigation the SEC eventually conducts.

  • [By Ben Levisohn]

LINN Energy, LLC, LinnCo, LLC (LNCO) and Berry Petroleum Company (the “Companies”) announced today that the final Registration Statement on Form S-4 has been declared effective by the Securities and Exchange Commission (“SEC”), and the Companies have also filed definitive proxy materials with the SEC.
